Another anniversary on the horizon... |

This October 5th will be the 40th anniversary of the very first broadcast of Monty Python. Can't let this pass unmentioned.

I know what I'll be fixing that evening...spam, spam, spam, spam, baked beans, spam, spam and spam.

say 'Pull out the map, you little bitch, and give me directions!'"

Amazingly, it's one of my "weekend" days, so I'll have me an all-day marathon. And I'll get me a white kerchief and start banging two
bricks together.
For those in the UK, I'm not sure but you may want to keep an eye on the tele... BBC did a retrospective on the 20th anniversary and the 30th, and the big 4-0 is a major milestone. |

The best Python doc I have seen over the years is still an edition of Omnibus presented by John Lloyd called 'Life of Python', made for the 20th
anniversary, partly because it features Ben Elton and Stephen Fry, who one would assume should know better, both pontificating like prize prats about comedy
with all the humour of a warthog with a scrotal abscess directing traffic in Poughkeepsie.

And now for a retrospective completely different...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00n7sf3 It airs Saturday instead of Monday, on BBC2. According to Netflix, it will be available on DVD in the states Oct 27. |

Me, I'm a completely self-taught idiot. I mean, "ooh-ah, ooh-ah, ooh-ah..." Nobody does that anymore. Anybody did that aroun' here,
they'd be laughed off the street. No, nowadays people want something wittier... *dumps porridge on his head*

I missed it Saturday night and I thought that was that, but I stayed up til 11.40 last night and am glad I did. One of the many good things was to see
'new' footage of Graham Chapman in interview. You'd assume from previous docs that the poor chap was mute, but no, here he was in that wretched
shell-suit being rather erudite.
I think one drawback apart from the obvious familiarity is that you get a huge whoosh on the start of the show, and then it's straight to the end. I suppose 'well, this is where we thought up the New Gas Cooker sketch' would seem passe to a casual viewer, but for all their regard for the 45 shows they made, they seem almost a necessary prelude to making the films. And at least they didn't shill Mike Palin's new volume of Diaries. EDIT - oh, and I was pleased that the Two Ronnies got a mention
"Can you hear horses galloping?"
