Here are the official rules for the Cap-Page Board:
1) NO ATTACKING OTHER CAPPERS HERE!
Making fun of the subjects posted here is one thing but if you level something mean-spirited/or purposefully rude at another Capper on the Board, that's quite another matter. People come to the Board to a) have fun, and b) have fun. They look to unwind by laughing at what Cappers say, and to caption hoping to make others laugh as well. They do not deserve to come to this little respite from the Real World and be attacked.
If you cross this like, you'll be warned. If you cross it again, that means youre deliberately doing it against my warnings, and at that point I will either suspend/or ban you from here. Message-boards are notorious for trolls and flame wars and I wont abide it here.
As the owner of this Board, I reserve the right to take ANY action at any time I think is justifiable to keep the Cap-Page Board a pleasant place. That means I have the authority to suspend anyone from capping here (for a period of time I decide is proper), and I can outright ban them from being able to come here (and that penalty is 100% non-reversible). I'll do whatever it yakes to keep bullies out of our little playground.
And if THAT shouldn't stop them (i.e. registering under a new name and returning here), at that point I'll forward the log statistics and ISP address to Yuku myself. They have a zero tolerance when it comes to those matters on their Gold Community boards. They will use that information to contact the offenders internet service provider and take matters into their own hands.
2) THERE ARE NO MORE RULES
That should make the first one VERY easy to stick to.
One of the Cap-Page Board's greatest strengths is its free-wheeling nature. Its always changing (either with the times, or with the addition of new members) and that's wonderful. I'd hate to fence in this wonderful playground of ours with rules and regulations all over the place. So I only have the one rule up. Consider it the Prime Directive or Ape Law or whatever you like. There's only one fence to avoid and that leaves an almost-infinite area to goof around in.
That said, here's a few suggestions on how to make your time more fun for you and for everyone here.
a) LOVE THY FELLOW CAPPER*
You get 10 people looking at a picture, and you're bound to get 10 different reactions to it. Now think of that picture as a screengrab, and raise the amount of folks looking at it to 300+. That's ALOT of different perspectives! Not to mention that not everyone is from the U.S. We've got Cappers here from the UK, Australia, New Zealand -- even Canada! Everyone has a skewed sense of humor here, and everyone just wants to have a good time. So remember, were all here for the same reason: to make fart jokes about Star Trek. Let's all be friends.
B) CORRECT ISN'T ALWAYS CORRECT
With all of our different points-of-view, everyone will reference some part of culture sometime. It's inevitable. And its also inevitable at some point a reference is going to be misquoted. It's not necessary to take up space in the capping galleries to single that person out from the group by pointing out the error (odds are others have already noticed it anyway, including the one who made the cap). From your pespective, Im sure you're simply letting them know they made a mistake. But for them they made a joke to make others laugh and you've just taken some of the air out of their balloon by basically pointing a finger at them on-stage and saying "Thats wrong!"
C) NO COW IS SACRED TO SLAUGHTER
This is perhaps the BIGGEST point to be made, and it sometimes needed to be repeated/reminded on occasion.
This is a place to make fun of pictures. Unlike other captioning venues where theres only x-amount of minutes before a picture-and-caption are gone off the screen forever, the Cap-Page Board gives you over a WEEK to cap the galleries and then an additional 10 DAYS to view them before theyre taken down. Thats a lot of time to reference something that another Capper might take offense to.
The official policy here on the Board is ANYTHING AND ANYONE IS OPEN TO BE MADE FUN OF. Period.
The whole purpose of captioning is to make fun of things. And that includes what might be YOUR favorite actor, TV show, movie, band, book, cartoon, song, or whatever. I DO NOT want the capping galleries tied up with debates and arguments about capping-subjects. The bottom line is: if you accept that ANYTHING is open to be made fun of, and you take offense at something someone has captioned about a celebrity or whatnot, the problem isn't with them; it's with YOU.
I equate capping here to performing at a comedy club. Just imagine you're up onstage performing, and you decide to do a joke on popular actor Skittle J. Scuttlebutt or the hot new boy band Cool Rush Weasel. You're in the middle of your joke and suddenly a voice cries out from the back "I like Skittle J. Scuttlebutt!" or "I love Cool Rush Weasel!" When you're performing the last thing you want is a heckler, so don't be that heckler when someone else is joking around.
If you might find a caption/or captions about those things upsetting or unfunny, then just go past them; or if there's a TV show or movie that you love and aren't prepared to see an entire gallery filled with jokes about them, just avoid that gallery. If you feel a subject's been maligned unfairly, go to the Open Forum section and make a post in defense of them. You can get your point across, and leave the gallery open and free for folks who are there to have fun.
D) THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A LOOSE THREAD
For those not in the know, threads are ongoing jokes. All forms of comedy has these in one form or another (such as recurring characters throughout the decades on Saturday Night Live). The late, lamented Caption This! spawned COUNTLESS threads during its run online: PUMATs, underwear on the ceiling, keogh-screengrab jokes, Buffoon's ex-wifes heart, Satan's Penis and merkins, to name but a mere few. Well, the Cap-Page Board is no different. Its become as comfortable and familiar as CT was, and that's led to its own brand of running gags. oh HELL no, Heroes of Accountancy, Estella/THUD/, Happy Fun Brigadier, and of course Capper Crushes (every Charisma-Depp-Ainley-Amy Jo-Bloom-Connery luvvin one of em!) to name only a few.
And just like with any joke, not everyone finds every thread funny. But just like with any caption, if you don't find it funny then just move on from it. Like with C) above, I DO NOT wants the Capping Galleries tied up with debates and arguments about them. Threads only exist as long as 1) they're popular, and b) people like making jokes about them. Sooner or later, their appeal will fade.
