Okay, my real opinion is that it was half-assed. If I understand correctly, The Village in this version is all a dream world created by 2's wife. Setting aside questions of how the numbered inhabitants were brought into The Village, or their dream selves or whatever, or even WHY they were brought there, or how Mrs. 2 could "wake up" in her dream and why she even had to be comatose in her own dream, or all the other frippery and weirdness for weirdness sake, what we are left with is the idea that this is all a dream. So, all that stuff about Village History, the "Reformation", the previous Numbers 2, Rover, the Old Man 93's wardrobe and his bungalow in The Village being reproductions of the ORIGINAL No. 6 (McGoohan), the ruins of an old Village, and the occasional pennyfarthing bicycle are then what? Memories of a TV show Mrs. 2 watched as a kid, and then used in her dream as a basis for her Village? I think the holes that were literally showing up in the ground are a reflection of the writer giving up and acknowledging the gaping plot holes riddling this production. I did like one bit of business; the explanation to the Villagers that the holes were being casued by atmospheric anomalies and being urged to keep pigs because a "known scientific fact" that swine breath wards off these anomalies. That was an absurdly perfect way to distract the citizenry and make them feel as if they were doing their part to help. Love the poster, KEEP A PIG, FOR STABILITY.

I think that they painted themselves into a corner, and they probably won't go any further with this. At least I hope they don't, and that McKellen and Caviezel can put this mess behind them.
